it a morning forecast. good morning. how about a notable warmup in time for the weekend? we're waking up with high clouds and a little patchy fog this morning and the temperatures similar to slightly warmer outside our doors and this afternoon, four to eight degrees warmer than yesterday's highs. it may bring us some record heat and we'll take a look at those numbers for your neighborhood coming up. one person is in critical condition after a drive-by shooting that injured three others. it happened around 8:00 last night near the intersection of ivy drive and win mere avenue in the bellhaven neighborhood. we're live with more. >> reporter: the police were here at the scene up to an hour ago. they just reopened the street. this is windermere and ivy drive. and this is the site where four men were shot in front of this house in front of us. the police laid out evidence markers on the street and

talked to witnesses. and they say that the four money were standing outside this home on ivy drive and neighbors heard ten to 20 shots fired. >> what we could piece together is that the folks were in front of a house here on ivy drive and windermere. and two vehicles drove by and it was somewhat of a drive-by shooting. >> reporter: all four adult males were taken to sanford medical center and were to in good condition. one stable, one is in critical condition. the police don't have a suspect description but witnesses reported seeing two black cars, a honda and acura heading northbound on ivy drive shortly after the shooting. the police don't know what the motive is, whether it was gang- related or not. but they're asking for the publike's help f you heard or saw anything, you're asked to give the police a call.

it was also a violent night in san francisco's bay view district. a 20-year-old man was shot to death on kirkwood avenue last night. and no arrested made and that is still under investigation. some residents are trying to stop what they say is a wave of violence. residents walks the streets and talked about how crime is affecting them and what can be done to stop it. more than 100 people have been killed in oakland this year. and these walks are operation ceasefire and it's a program that has some success in other city. >> we want to demonstrate our love by being out here and being with them. >> and organizers say that part of the effort will focus on bringing together members of the african-american and latino communities. happening now, a micorsoft

the hospital where he died. it was determined that he died of natural causes. he was 47 years old. president obama is conevening a meeting to help those states battered by super storm sandy. the president traveled to hard hit areas on wednesday and today's meeting at the white house includes top aides, the head of fema and by the telephone, the governors of new york, new jersey and connecticut. and in this morning's weekly addressed. the president pledged to help storm victims to rebuild no matter how long it takes. >> as president, i promise them this, your country be there for you for as long as it takes to recover and rebuild. >> following this morning's meeting, they will fan out to tour damaged areas to make sure that necessary resources shall being provided. that includes gasoline because there's a shortage. and the long lines for gas still visible in some states.

new jersey is actually rationing gas. some people in new york cheered this morning when the lights came back on. the number of people without power drops from 2.6 million from a high of 8 million. the storm has left 175 people dead, including 106 in the united states. new york marathon will not be run tomorrow. mayor bloomberg canceled that race after mounting criticism. they claimed that the race would have drained resources that should be helping the recovery effort. >> my house is intact and i will not have power for a week or so and the resources should be used for the people around here. >> we are very angry we spent thousands of dollars to bring

the city of oak lapped is considering a plan to strengthen graffiti laws to help businesses that are repeatedly target by taggers. a proposal and city attorney would make graffiti vandalism a misdemeanor rear than an infraction and make parents of underage graffiti vandals liable for damages. the city of san mateo may put restrictions on noisy leaf blowers. they're considering three options, ban them all together,

four people shot and within critically. the search is on for the gunman. good morning. the shooting happened just after 8:00 as a group of people were standing outside a home. we're live there at the scene this morning with what the police are saying about the vehicles involved. >> reporter: the people that live in the area near windermere and ivy said they told the police they heard ten to 20 shots fired. the police found four men had been struck by the gunfire. they were standing in the yard of this home. the police laid out evidence markers and launched and overnight investigation into the shooting. we have the street closed till 6:00 this morning. they talked to several neighbors and witnesses at the scene. the police commander said that the shooting appears to have been a drive by. the victims were among several people standing in the yard when if happened. >> we don't know the motive for the shooting or what the issue

was that fronted the shooting. >> reporter: the four victims were taken to sanford hospital. two in good condition, one stable and one man in critical condition. they don't have a suspect description. but witnesses saw two black cars driving away from the scene after the shooting, a black honda and acura heading northbound on ivy. the police are asking for the public's help. anyone that may have seen or heard what happened or anything related to the shooting last night should give them a call. a san jose police department is investigating a shooting overnight. they say that the man with gunshot wound was taken to good samaritan hospital where he later died from his injuries. a jury is still struggling to reach a verdict in the trial of a san jose principal with failing to report charges of child abuse by a teacher. the prosecutors said that the

principal did not contact the police after a student complained that a teacher blindfold her and touched her and put objects in her mouth. the teacher said that he was trying to teach her about helen keller. >> the principal is accountable, not to listen to anybody else's opinion. >> a civil lawsuit has been filed again the district on behalf of the child's family. public safety officers are searching for a man they say assaulted a female student on the stanford campus. she was running tuesday night and was able to flag down a passing drive for help after the assault. anyone with information is asked to contact the stanford

the secretary of state's office said there are 18.2 million registered voters and 950,000 have signed up since the last presidential election. and the state's new on line voter registration system played a big part in the recent increase. there are fewer registered republicans in california. that number has dropped to 29.3%. and other voter wars listed as republican in 2008. this appears to be the lowest number of registered republicans in california since records have been kept. they are encouraging 70,000 people who vote by mail to hand deliver their ballots before dropping them in the mailbox. ballots must be received by 8:00 p.m. on tuesday. the county said it has issued nearly 122,000 vote by mail ballots only receives about 50,000. people can drop off the ballots today monday, or tuesday. there are serious

allegations of voter fraud in oregon a few days before the election. they say that a woman that lived in the election's coves is accused of tampering the office there. >> we're working to make sure that this person is held accountable and that she's prosecuted to the fullest extent. >> secretary of state said this is a first for oregon. she would not say how many ballots may have been altered but that this is now a criminal investigation. state officials have released a map of areas that are most vulnerable to an earthquake. the map shows a 30-mile section of the county where the soil could liquefy in a large quake. they hope to use the map on making decisions on construction projects.

come and they're fed up with the federal government and the american red cross. the homeland security secretary did tour the area yesterday with fema and is promising resources. and new york governor promising a hundred million dollars to hurricane sandy victims and announceing that he's setting up temporary fueling stations, something that has not been done before. but residents say that they need food and they need water and they need blankets and they need information. i'm joined by tony, a staten island resident. tell me what it is that you've been going through. you said that you were foolish enough to the to evacuate and you're cold. >> we're cold. no heat and no hot water. we no the use our bathrooms. our generator was submerged in

water. my neighbors lost a lot more than i have. it was really upsetting me and i can't get fema. they tell me go on line look, make phone calls. i have no phone service. i have nothing. okay. and i've been chasing fema for two days. >> reporter: i don't know if i'll have gas tomorrow. it upsets me, why don't you come into the neighborhood with paper and information and tell people where they're going to be. >> reporter: in the last hour or so, we saw the national guard coming in. so they have boots on the ground. and volunteers from new york, manhattan has been helping out. how does that make you feel? >> reporter: it makes me feel better. i didn't know that we had verizon down here. you're broadcasting it but we

we have them highlight on the map for you. let's break down what is happen in the states. the polls giving the president at least a four point lead over mitt romney in at least five states. you can see nevada and new hampshire giving president obama a six point lead, virginia and michigans have mitt romney trailing by five. iowa voters have it narrowed to a four point margin n colorado it's a little harder to track because there are two dualing polls there. and then there are two states that are just too close to call, florida and ohio. they have president obama winning but only by 2%.

the department of defense is setting up emergency mobile fuel stations to give out free gas around the new york metro area. new york governor said that 8 million gallons of gas has been delivered in new york and another 28 million is on the way. new jersey governor chris christie has ordered gas rationing to cut down on lines at the gas stations. it's called odd even rationing. vehicles with license plates that end in even number cans only fill up on even numbered days of the month. odd numbers and specialized plates go on the odd days. it's expected to work since only gas station workers can pump gas in new jersey. i man stopped to video a passing train for his four-year- old son he never inspected what would happen next. the camera phone caught the train slamming into a utility truck on to the railroad track.

the aftermath of sandy is emotionally drawning for people. good morning. people in staten island, new york city's hardest hit bureau say they're being ignored and

forgotten. we're live in staten island where more than 20 people were killed in the storm. we know we saw some frustrated residents there. are you seeing more boots on the ground and more help coming? >> reporter: you know, actually we are. and we're also seeing a lot of volunteers. they've been organizing themselves on social media and facebook. they're just coming out with their own shovels and tools and trying to do what they can. we're about 300 yards from the atlantic ocean. and there's pretty much not a home in this neighborhood that has the not been completely destroyed by hurricane sandy's storm surge. there's 169 dead here. it's getting really cold as well. dropping temperatures are an issue for people here. but there's been 169 damages and 22 on staten island. to a heart hit area. and now -- heart hit area. the secretary of the homeland security did tour the area with

fema yesterday promising resources and new york's governor promising a hundred million dollars to hurricane sandy victims and also setting up fuel trucks, temporary fuel trucks deploying them all over the region to try to get gas to the people. we've had shortage issues and lines and a lot of gas stations been running out of gas. residents are very frustrated and pleading for help. [ no audio ] >> reporter: i'm not sure if you were able to hear that sound. but people are very frustrated and looking for information

from fema. good morning to you. >> good morning. >> reporter: what is it that you're doing? you set up two stations that are handing out what? >> basically between the red cross, fema and the national guard itself, we set up distribution centers, one down the street and one at a near high school. and the big things that we're handing out are food, water, blankets and warm clothing. so the citizen cans go there to retrieve the items and register with fema. if they cannot get there, we bring the items to them. so we've been going through the eastern coast of staten island and bringing the items house to house. >> reporter: a lot of people decided to ride the storm out like hurricane irene what is the moved people that have been coming to you that been able to help. >> people are shocked and devastated and very thankful, not on lit national guard is here, but we had a huge group

of people from red cross and fema coming down the streets helping them clean out their streets. >> reporter: a lot of residents and people been critical of the federal government. when you talk about tunnels and bridges and all sorts of road closures, you understand where they could be coming from. what do you have to say to residents that are frustrated right now? >> i can't begin to imagine what the people are going through. however, i do know that everyone sheer doing the most that they can -- here is doing the most that they can to bring the most that we can to the people. >> reporter: thank you very much. we'll get you get back to work.>> let me ask you one question. where are people staying. you talked about the dropping temperatures? where are they rideing this out? >> reporter: some of them said they're driving around looking for information or looking for

city officials have removed the purple benches at harvey mill plaza in san francisco's district after complaints that somehow the benches encouraged public drunkenness. the benefit district made that decision this week. it will cost $18,000 to remove those benches the group paid $40,000 to install the benches in 2010. a shoe shiner is back in business after someone burned

are on their way to the east coast. officials tell ktvu that another 75 volunteers got on a plane at sacramento airport this morning. and they have been deployed to the areas hard hit by the storm. this morning's weekly address, president obama pledged to help storm victims rebuild no matter how long it takes. >> as president i promise them this, your country will be there for you for as long as it takes to recover and rebuild. >> the president toured hard hit areas in new jersey on wednesday and this morning he stopped at a headquarters of a federal emergency management agency for an update on the storm clean up before getting ready far full day of campaigning across the country. the white house is sending out top officials to new jersey, new york, and connecticut to check on response and recovery efforts. more new yorkers woke up to restored power.

power companies say the number of customers without power dropped to 2.68 million. the governor of new york says about 80% of subway service has been restored now. the storm has left around 170 people dead worldwide. the new york city marathon is not going to go on as scheduled tomorrow. mayor michael bloomburg canceled that race yesterday after mounting criticism. and many who are still recovering are angry because they thought the race would drain resources that should be used to help with recovery efforts. >> i think it's a good decision. i'm much better off than most people. i don't have power, no generator, but my house is in tact. i'm not going to have power for a week or so. the resources that are used for the marathon. >> we are very angry. we spent thousands of dollars to bring our family here, pay for hotel rooms. it's not just one runner. they usually have a support group. so that coulds, two, three, four, in my case 7 people flew

here. >> there will not be another new york city marathon until next year. >> are beer maker anheuser- busch are helping those impacted by sandy. they are putting fresh drinking water in millions of cans they are producing cases of water and some are on their way to distribution centers in new york and new jersey. they have donated more than 71 million cans of emergency drinking water following natural disasters. one person is in critical condition after a drive by shooting that injured three others. it happened in menlo park in the bell haven neighborhood. the victims were standing in front of a home when someone in a car open fired. the gunman was last seen driving away on ivy drive. >> two people were scene leaving the scene northbound on

ivy,. >> police say at this time they do not have a motive for the shooting. >> the san jose police department is investigating a shooting overnight. a man with gunshot wounds was taken to good samaritan hospital around 1:30 this morning. he died from his injuries. a 20-year-old man is under arrest after suspicion of attacking a station official. investigators say the suspect devin riley punched and kicked a muni agent who tried to stop him from bringing a bike on the train. muni says it plans to install security cameras following yesterday's deaths inside a tunnel. a man was struck and killed on a light rail train while he was walking on the tracks near the montgomery station. it shut down service for 3 hours during the busy morning commute. the new cameras will be able to help watch for people walking

on the tracks and they are going to be installed sometime next year. public safety officers are searching for a man who they say sexual assaulted a student on campus. he grabbed her while she was running on campus tuesday night. she was able to flag down a driver for help after the assault. anyone with information on the case is asked to contact the stanford department of public safety. nearly 2000 people are expected to gather at hp pavilion in san jose to say their final good-byes to a fallen chief. ktvu interviewed rob van we werer last year. he was investigated fire when he lost consciousness and determined, services are set to begin at 10:30 and are open to the public. good morning to you, happy

good morning to you, a live look from the estuary, partly cloudy, cool calm conditions, a warming trend beginning today and lasting through early next week. the federal government is buying gas line to get fuel to those in the northeast affected by the storm. the department of defense is setting up emergency mobile fuel stations to give t free gas around the new york metro

area. new york governor an drew cuomo says 18 million atlantas have been delivered in new york and 20 million-gallons are on the way. new jersey governor chris christie has ordered gas rationing, called odd/even rationing. vehicles with license plates that end in even numbers can fill up on even numbers days of the month. odd numbers can go on the odd days. the plan is expected to work since only gas station workers can pump gas new jersey. if you haven't noticed you are paying a lot less at the pump. they hit record levels three weeks ago and now they are more than 60-cents cheaper and prices dropped another 3-cents overnight. in san francisco, it's 4.16. san jose, 3.98 and vallejo, 3.49 according to triple a.

>> typically i spend $40 a day on gas. it's climbed down and given me room to breathe. >> and the young man you heard from, he has to cover the cost of gas for his pizza delivery job. and he commutes so he pays close attention to the prices. the governor of california took action to switch to the winter grade gasoline soonerrer to help gas prices. some car owners could be getting a refund after an investigation by the environmental protection agency found that about 900,000 cars over stated their gas mileage. the epa found inflated gas mileage on the high day elantras and tucson kia sportage and rio. they say the window mileage was overstated in 1/3 of cars. not only could that result in millions of dollars to car owners but also sages from the u.s. government.

nurses plan to picket today in support o of nurses at santa rosa memorial hospital who are on a three day strike. they plan to hold an informational picket today. nurses in the st. joseph's health system are at odds on pay and on call regulations. that's going to happen at its meeting on monday. alameda county medical center would own and operate the hospital under this agreement but needs $6 million a year to do so. so the hospital is asking the city of san leandro. workers at super markets are working b but rallies management agreed to keep meeting with a federal mediator this morning. if there's no new contract by midnight, the workers plan on

going on strike. we are learning more this morning about allegations o of sexual abuse at a ma raga middle school. cristin says two teachers molested her, she filed a district in september. this week they filed their response, accusing cunnane of playing a role in her own abuse. >> i just kept reading those words over and over again that i was negligent and partially responsible. >> the superintendent said the district ohm thighed with her but could not waive any avenues o of defense. and after complaints that they encouraged public drunkenness the district made the decision this week. it is going to cost $8000 to remove those benches. the group paid $40,000 to install them in 2010.

it's a fire that burned 75,000 acres north of sacramento and now the public is going to get a look at the damage. they will be giving a public tour on november 14th of the chips fire which started in july in plymouth county. it forced several evacuations and took about a month to control. the u.s. forest service is considering removing trees that are dangerous. a mountain lion is roaming around the brentwood area. someone spot a cat on grant street and gregory lane on thursday. there is no word on any recent sightings in that area. the city of oakland is considering a plan to

strengthen graffiti laws a proposal from nancy, and barbara parker would make graffiti vandalism a misdemeanor rather than an infraction and it would make parents liable for damages. businesses that are frequently vandalized would elible for money from a city clean up fund. carrot chips could be contaminated with salmonella. they are recalling bags of carrot chips of iuse by dates of november 12th and 14th. about 1500 bags were shipped. and customers with the affected products should return them for a refund. the meningitis outbreak continues to grow. more than 400 people have been infected and 29 people have died. the ongoing outbreak has been linked to three lots of a steroid injection by a company

a shooting in menlo park leaves one person fighting for their lives. good morning it is saturday november 30. a drive buy shooting in menlo park, it happened around 8:00 near the intersection of ivy drive and wind mere avenue. four people were shot. one in critical condition and the others are expected to live. a 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of taking a muni agent. this is video o of the -- of the attack. the suspect devin reilly punched and had kicked a muni agent. and just about about hour

the hp pavilion is expected to be packed with friends and family of a fire chief who passed away on the job. the services are set to begin at 10:30, about 2000 people are expected. police in san francisco are trying to figure out what led up to a deadly shooting in san francisco's bay view district overnight. it happened on men dell street around 10:30. they found a man who had been shot several times. the circumstances of that shooting are still under investigation. well, some recommendation leaders and residents of -- religious leaders and resident offense oakland are trying to stop a wave of violence. people talked to people how crime is affecting them and about what can be done to stop it. more than 100 people have been killed in oakland this year. and an antiviolence program has had some success in other cities. >> folks who may look like perpetrators or victims, we
